The board of directors of the Skovdyrkerne (Danish Forest Owners Co-Operation) subsidiary Green Product A/S (GP) and the boards of the five local forestry associations have jointly decided to consolidate all forestry activities related to Christmas trees under the auspices of GP. In the future, GP will be responsible for the forestry’s entire offer to our Christmas tree members. GP will therefore handle consulting, production, contracting, and sales of Christmas trees while also managing decorative greenery, initially for the Forestry Association Midt, the Forestry Association Vestjylland, and the Forestry Association Øerne.

With these changes, we ensure that GP is equipped for the challenges and opportunities in the coming years, where the supply of Christmas trees is decreasing and where strong and cost-effective management of all stages in the value chains will be crucial for success.

Thorough Preparations

The new plans are based on extensive analysis and strategic work that has been conducted over the past three months. This work was led by a close collaboration between forest manager and board member Henrik Fredslund-Petursson from Forestry Syd and GP’s director Henning Post, involving forestry employees, local boards, and the main board of the Danish Forestry Associations.

The conclusions of the analysis and strategy work have been unequivocal, pointing towards the decision that has now been made. With a well-founded decision-making basis and support from all involved, the new plans for GP rest on the best possible foundation.

Transfer of Tasks and Employees

From a forestry perspective, the core values and the overall task concerning Christmas trees and decorative greenery remain unchanged: Our members continue to have professionals on their side, and we must deliver the best possible consulting and sales support.

Internally, however, we are redistributing tasks and therefore the employees whose primary function involves Christmas trees. These employees will formally transfer to GP at the beginning of the next fiscal year, i.e., July 1, 2024. In practice, Henning Post and the new GP team will begin working in accordance with the future organization immediately.

What Does This Mean for You as a Christmas Tree Member of the Forestry?

The restructuring aims to maintain and develop our unique position as the leading member-owned company for consulting and trading Christmas trees and decorative greenery in Denmark. The stronger GP is, the better we stand in the market, and the better we can serve you as a producer.

In your daily operations, you will not notice significant changes. Most will be serviced by the same Christmas tree forester as before, and everyone will have the same strong payment security as always when trading through the forestry. The most noticeable difference will be that you will now receive settlements and invoices from GP instead of from a local association.

Your membership fee will still be paid to your local association.

Changes in the Board

After more than seven years as chairman of the board, Søren Christiansen has announced that with the adoption of a new strategy, his work is complete, and he wishes to pass the baton. Forest manager Henrik Fredslund-Petursson will assume the role of chairman of the board. Additionally, chairman of Forestry Nord-Øst, Benny Hammer, and chairman of Forestry Øerne, Hans Chr. Teisen, will join the board.

The remaining board members are forest manager Peder Toftegaard Gregersen, Forestry Nord-Østjylland, forest manager Michael Sheedy Gehlert, Forestry Vestjylland, forest manager Kristian Løkke Kristensen, Forestry Midt, and director Lars Muldbak, Forestry Øerne.
